Cabinet Style: Yukon Antique White
Powder Springs Colonial Villa
In June 2019 our Prime Cabinetry staff had the pleasure of meeting Javella and Keith Simmons. Prime Designer Jordan Pulley met with Javella to discuss the future of her first cabinet order with us and to set her up as a wholesaler. Her client, Sharon, was eager to get her kitchen remodel started and Javella had the eye for design that was needed to transform the space. In a few short weeks we had a solid design plan and the cabinets were ordered. As construction on the remodel continued in Sharon’s home, we asked Javella to answer some questions about her experience on the project and working with Prime Cabinetry.
Can you give us a little background on the project?*
When my husband received a referral from a friend for a kitchen remodel, the first thing the client wanted to do was see his work. He invited her into our home to see our kitchen and she said, “I want this kitchen.” Then she looked at me and said, “And I want you to design it.” From there we went to her home, looked at the scope of work and I got busy on the design. We were hired! The kitchen was original to the beautiful Colonial home. What a jewel of a house to work on with its traditional elegance of wood paneling, exquisite trim and crystal chandeliers. When the walls came down opening the kitchen to the living room, and a second door added to the dining room, new light and life flooded through the house!
From where did you gain your inspiration? *
Not wanting to lose the traditional craftsmanship of the home, I drew inspiration from the surrounding elements and the amazing artwork by the client’s youngest daughter displayed throughout the house. We needed a neutral background that would allow the beauty of the art to shine. We also needed a cool and bright compliment to the warm paneling in the living room. The kitchen had to be timeless and serve as a space to host a family rambling with grandchildren for Thanksgiving Dinner.
What made you decide to work with Prime Cabinetry? *
Finding Prime Cabinetry was a miracle! We had initially selected cabinets from another manufacturer. When their shipment was rejected for quality control, we were told that it would take several months before the product would be available again. I was referred to the cabinet line by my husband’s former apprentice and knew it was a relationship that had to be, so I petitioned Prime Cabinetry to bring me on as a wholesaler. Best decision ever! The quality, selection, and the service were impeccable. Intricate design details for complete customization of the kitchen were masterfully incorporated by the Prime Cabinetry professionals.
What advice would you give someone who is just beginning their remodeling journey? *
It is so important to have a vision for the end result. My husband, who is extremely talented as a remodeler, does not have an eye for design. I do. We compliment each other as he works in the physical and I work in the imaginable. You might say that he understands the mechanics and I understand the music. (Keith is a mechanical engineer by degree and I hold degrees in music and education). He has mad skills and I have gifted talent. He reminds me all the time, “You have three limitations - your budget, your imagination and the laws of physics.” For example, we customized the Yukon Antique White cabinets by placing a glaze over the tea stain accent. The cut and color of the cabinets were perfect for our design concept and the slight tinting of the accent gave us a completed custom look. So, our best advice is that anything is possible... dream about it and go for it!
What do you enjoy most about your new kitchen/bath? *
The new kitchen brings freshness and balance to the whole house. The cabinets compliment the home perfectly. Placing the island and setting the walls for the bar, refrigerator and oven just right were monumental to the ow of the house, not to forget knocking down a massive wall between the kitchen and great room to completely open up space. We were able to splurge on high-end appliances because of the savings offered by Prime Cabinetry. (Some of us might be guilty of hugging the refrigerator to make it open and close all by itself). Our client loves it, and that is what matters most! The cabinets gave us the perfect foundation to pick all other design elements. Once we figured out the ebb and ow and look, everything else fell right into place. What is not to love? Thank you, Prime Cabinetry!
Overall, Prime Cabinetry thinks Javella and Keith did an outstanding job with this renovation. Sharon’s kitchen has truly been transformed into a magazine worthy room. With more counter space, functional storage, and an open concept this kitchen is a hit! Do you have what it takes to be the next contest winner? Enter your Before and After photos today!
